"A vehicle that has the ability to accelerate rapidly creates a tendancy for the driver to accelerate rapidly."-chuck

Is that unsafe or safe in your opinion?

All of your comments are pretty interesting, thanks for the intelligent responses.

Accidents are caused by bad drivers.

Consider the debate over handguns. Does a gun kill or does the person pulling the trigger kill? Firearms and cars are both inanimate objects. They have the ability to cause and prevent/avoid harm. Sure you can restrict their use, but the fact remains that criminals will always be able to get guns and cars will always be at risk of hitting something. They're hunks of moving metal for chrissake. If it's not other cars, it's trees, pedestrians, or cyclists. The ability to accelerate may in some cases be the cause of an accident, but in most situations can be the only means for a driver to steer clear of danger.

A gross oversimplification. By gross I do not mean large, I mean I am throwing up because seriously, what the hell? In a yogi berra moment much in line with the phrase "It's not the fall that kills, you it's sudden stop at the end," I contend that accidents are caused by differences in velocity. If two objects have the same velocity, they cannot come in contact with another. Therefore, if one object changes its velocity, or it (finger quotes) "accelerates," accidents are infinitely more likely to occur. Therefore, acceleration is the root cause of all accidents. QED, muhfugga.
